Early Years Foundation Stage

At Phoenix Primary School we aim to give children the best start in school. We follow an enquiry-based curriculum based of the development matters. We believe that children should be at the centre of everything we do and are led by the children's ideas and interests.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), children’s learning is divided into seven key areas to ensure a well-rounded development. These areas include:

Communication and Language, where children learn to listen, understand, and speak.

Physical Development, which focusses on enhancing motor skills and promoting physical health;

Personal, Social, and Emotional Development, which helps children build confidence, manage emotions, and form relationships.

The four other areas are Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. These areas work together to ensure that children are prepared for future learning - while fostering a love of learning in a supportive, nurturing environment.
